What is Psychopathology?

The emotional difficulties we have seem to be a result of a combination of factors which can be likened to a soup. The main factors that I have identified in the process of working on myself and working with other people are the following;

• Genetics, such as being highly sensitive,

• Interaction with significant others - such as with an unavailable or intrusive mother

• The geographical and historical culture we're born into

• The culture of our family, for example if there is a lot of denial or emotional illiteracy

• Trauma and loss in childhood, such as bereavement, adoption, abuse or neglect

• Trauma and loss in adulthood

• Difficulties in relationships

All these factors go into the soup and so the soup continuously changes as each new impression or impingement is added.
